Sorry, couldn’t contain myself there – I just feel like an absolute BEAST when I’m eating and training like one and thus, I may act like one on occasion too 😛
And that feeling, it just makes you feel so strong, independent, capable, and amazing – this is especially important for women, in my opinion.
And that is one of the MANY reasons that women NEED to lift weights… not pink Davina McCall dumbbells, c’mon! Put them down! A lot of attention is given to the off-the-scale metabolic and functional benefits of lifting weights as opposed to merely doing steady-state cardio, but not enough emphasis is put on the mental effects – this is the most important thing to me – how I FEEL about myself!
I’ve always been ridiculously skinny (yeah, skinny folk are complaining about their weight now too, go figure!) especially with regards my arms and legs. Seriously though, people have actually pointed and laughed out “ahaha chicken legs!” Although this is in good humour… I think… it still does make me feel super self-conscious about it and I would NEVER reveal my legs in public ever ever ever.
So, being ABLE to lift heavy, feel awesomely sore the next day, and get to eat like an animal as a reward, makes me feel 100% A* on top of the world… I mean, how does that not sound good?! Because even if I’m not changing PHYSICALLY at a GREAT speed (aesthetic changes take 4-6 times longer to show than strength gains – stick with it!), I feel different, I feel. Amazing and strong. And let me tell you, “strong” feels SO much better than “skinny” – give it a go!
And hey, if you need any advice to kick-start you or assess your current path towards a goal, whatever goal that may be (fat loss, hypertrophy, improvements in cardio ability etc), just give me a shout and I’ll do my best for ya!
– Committed to your health and fitness,
Rachel.
